The main reason is it is going to be the same browser going to be pushed on to the laptops with Microsoft Windows installed, but with a different name.

The reason I thought I would write about Internet Explorer brand is not completely because of the re-branding of Internet Explorer, but with a question that got answered within me that who is going to be the successor of Internet Explorer.

I bet it is going to be Google Chrome. Google Chromes performance lives up to the brand name - Internet Explorer. It is as slow as a dead snail nowadays. I wonder how Google have let its browser to degrade to this level.

Finally I installed Firefox which is still doing better.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561617252260716505.post-72805896906309100412015-03-06T17:50:00.003+00:002015-03-06T17:50:45.370+00:00[Solved] Firefox asks intranet passwordI have installed firefox and set it as my default browser. I did not have any clue why this happened. I finally tried the below to fix the issue, and it fixed the issue.

Note: This works only on a rooted Android device.

Open Terminal Emulator app

In the emulator type the following command

bugreport > /mnt/sdcard/bugreport.log

I open the file bugreport.log and looked for the exception message related to gapps. From the logs, I realized that while calendar sync starts, somehow the account name is set as blank, which was causing the issue. To double-check whether this is the issue, I opened the Calendar app in my mobile and navigated to Menu > More > Calendars. When I opened this menu item, the application force closed with unexpected error. This confirmed that the issue is with the Calendar app in my mobile. To fix this, I did the following:

From the home screen, I opened Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Calendar.

Clicked on 'Clear data'

Also opened the Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Calendar Storage.

Clicked on 'Clear data'

The issue is fixed!

In pursuit of fixing the issue, I found some useful information to troubleshoot issues in Android. I am listing them below:

No worries, I'm not a Windows user!

After I installed Ubuntu 12.04, I have installed firefox, in a not so direct way(double click a .deb, I meant). I'm listing below the steps to get the latest build of firefox setup.

Download firefox from www.mozilla.org

Create a symbolic link in the /usr/bin/ directory that points to the newly downloaded firefox binary. Use the following command
sudo ln -s /opt/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

The firefox browser is installed on the machine now. We need to do the sync setup, plugins setup for the firefox to be fully functional.

Open Tools > Setup Sync and follow instructions to complete the sync setup

Install Adobe Flash Player plugin. This is needed to play video files in youtube. Use the following command to install
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

After that install Adobe Flash Player, visit the url www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ to ensure that the plugin is installed

While browsing the net for something I stumbled on a very pleasing UI theme for Ubuntu 12.04. I read along following all the links in the page and got to know much about GNOME 3. The themes collection available for GNOME3 was plenty and beautiful. I installed GNOME3 shell on my Ubuntu and then imported some very nice themes, icons from gnome-look.org.

It is really an awesome OS!

After installation of the OS in my mobile, I had set the WIFI sleep policy to 'When screen turns off'. The problem I faced because of this setting was when my mobile display was off, WIFI would get disconnected and mobile data connection was switched on automatically; this caused my available mobile data allowance per month to be used, even though there was a WIFI available.

I totally forgot where I had set this policy. I literally browsed all the settings except, where it could be re-configured! Finally I found where I had set the WIFI sleep policy, and set it back to 'Never'.

In this post I will provide the steps on how to set the WIFI sleep policy to suit your need.

Open 'Wi-Fi sleep policy'

Select the option that suits your need ( I set it to 'Never' )

DBP (David's Batch Processor), is a very useful tool to do batch tasks using Gimp. The repository is available in the url.
For the source to compile g++ is required. To install, g++ :
Open a terminal, and run the following:
sudo apt-get install libgimp2.0-dev gcc cpp g++
Enter 'y' for all the prompts.
Download dbpSrc-1-1-9.tgz to desktop
untar (or unzip) the tgz file using the following command
sudo tar -xvzf /home/[username]/Desktop/dbpSrc-1-1-9.tgz
cd dbp-1.1.9
To build, run the following command
sudo make
To install, run the following command
make install
After installing, open gimp tool. In one of my previous posts "HTC Desire Custom ROM Install, Part - 1 [[Overview]]", I had outlined the different steps, that needs to be done to install a custom ROM, in HTC Desire Android phone(GSM).

In this post, I will take you through the process of: How to root HTC Desire GSM?

Rooting means, to get access to the system files, and the system file locations. These system files, are the integral part of our mobile phone, which makes it work the way it works. Example: to show the home screen, respond to user interactions such as tap on the screen etc.

Before jumping directly into the "topic", I would like to share a word of caution, that Root will void the warranty of the phone, and there is a possibility that, your phone will not respond(aka bricked). My personal opinion on this word of caution is, take the risk, and the reward will be great. I was apprehensive about the whole idea of rooting, which was the first step to install, a custom ROM on my mobile; it took a while for me to finally go for it. Now I am happy, that I did it.

During the process, the phone will be rebooted a number of times, which is normal. One very important thing to keep in mind is: do not touch the phone after the Unrevoked3.21 has started the rooting process.

The phone will be successfully rooted, when Unrevoked displays the message "Done".

To verify if the phone is rooted, open the application drawer, and look for a new app called 'Superuser Permissions'; if this application is present, it means your phone is rooted. Enjoy!!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561617252260716505.post-19689869989320048002012-03-26T12:37:00.002+01:002012-03-26T16:13:59.123+01:00[Solved]: Ubuntu 11.10 wireless very slow in Dell XPS M1530
In one of my previous posts about slow internet connection experienced in Ubuntu 11.04, I could not solve the problem and finally I had to downgrade my laptop to Ubuntu 10.10.

Today's post is about slow wireless connection experienced in my Dell XPS M1530 laptop after installing Ubuntu 11.10 and how this problem was solved.

In my laptop I have installed Ubuntu on dual boot, along with Vista SP2. The wireless speed from Vista SP2 was fairly fast (after I manage to open a browser and try to download in Windows after long wait to boot and finally another long wait after double clicking on the browser application). So I concluded, the slow wireless speed in Ubuntu is something to do with the driver of the wireless adapter that is installed. From the information I got from lspci command, I searched for Linux driver for my wireless adapter, but I couldn't find any. Finally I got information about an utility in Ubuntu that allows installation of drivers which are released by the manufacturers for Windows OS. That is brilliant. I gave it a shot and got excellent speed in my WiFi connection.

I am listing below the steps that I followed to fix the wireless problem and get the WiFi connection to full speed on my laptop.

Downloaded the drivers (.exe files) from dell.com for Windows OS. These driver packages (.exe files) are self extracting zip files, which can be opened and extracted using Archive Manager in Ubuntu

Extract the downloaded drivers

Using 'Package Manager', search for 'ndisgtk' and install ndisgtk

Open 'Wireless Network Drivers', and click 'Install New Driver'

Locate the .inf file from the extracted location above and click 'Install'

In the 'Wireless Network Drivers' the driver will be listed with status Hardware Present: Yes

Hope this helps. :-)
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
